43The next day Jesus decided to go to Galilee. He found Philip and said to him, “Follow me.” 44Now Philip was from Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter. 45Philip found Nathanael and said to him, “We have found him of whom Moses in the Law and also the prophets wrote, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.”
After Jesus met Andrew and his brother, Simon (aka, “Peter”), and before leaving Jerusalem for Galilee, he encountered Philip. He invited the man to leave his current activities to become His fulltime disciple.
The fishing village of Bethsaida lay just outside the sizable town of Capernaum, where Jesus lived after beginning His public ministry.
